Your voice matters in shaping our community's future. Whether you're concerned about Washington Square Park, public safety, or quality of life issues, there are multiple ways to make your concerns heard and help drive positive change in our neighborhood.
City Government
COMMUNITY BOARD 2
Community Board 2 meets monthly to review land use applications, liquor licenses, parks and waterfront issues, traffic concerns, and more. Community Board 2 members are appointed, not elected. Members serve two-year staggered terms, with half appointed each year by Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal. Half of the appointments are nominated by City Council members whose districts overlap with Community Board 2.
The Full Board meeting takes place on the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 PM at NYU's Gould Welcome Center, 50 West 4th Street, with hybrid attendance options. Committee meetings are held throughout the month on topics including Land Use, Landmarks, Parks & Waterfront, Traffic & Transportation, and Street Activities & Resiliency. All meetings are open to the public.
NYPD PRECINCT 6
Connect directly with local law enforcement at the 6th Precinct Community Council meetings, held on the last Wednesday of each month at 6:30-7:00 PM (except July and August) at Our Lady of Pompeii, Father Demo Hall. These meetings provide a forum to discuss public safety concerns, quality of life issues, and collaborate on solutions with precinct leadership and fellow neighbors. Email 6PCCNYC@gmail.com or 6thpctcommunitycouncil@gmail.com to receive meeting notices and Zoom links.
NYC CITY COUNCIL
The Washington Square neighborhood comprises District 2 & District 3, with Washington Square Park in District 2. Council Members Harvey Epstein (District 2) and the newly elected Carl Wilson (District 3) work directly on legislation affecting our neighborhood. Contact your council member's office to share concerns, request services, or get help navigating city agencies.
