NYC Parks Commissioner Sue Donoghue To Light The Washington Square Tree December 6th At 6pm

The Washington Square Association, a one hundred-year-old civic organization, is pleased to invite Commissioner Sue Donoghue to attend our Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony as our "Honored Guest". Commissioner Donoghue shall welcome the community and announce the Tree-Lighting countdown.

The 99th Tree Lighting, sponsored by the WSA, will take place at the Arch in Washington Square Park on Wednesday, December 6th at 6 p.m. This much-anticipated neighborhood tradition begins with the community gathering at 5:30 p.m.

NYC Parks Commissioner Sue Donaghue

At approximately 6 p.m., the Commissioner is introduced by Trevor Sumner, WSA President. Commissioner Donoghue, after a few welcoming words, invites the community to join her in the exciting moment of the countdown to the Tree Lighting. The holiday music is performed by The Rob Susman Brass Band who for the past 35 years, has provided a playlist and arrangements of favorite holiday songs for a joyful "sing-along".  Linseigh Green, an NYU graduate student, will again lead the community (from 6 months to 103 years) in song. Songbooks are distributed free of charge until we run out!  The music also appears on our website, washingtonsquarenyc.org

This is the 99th year of the WSA Tree Lighting in Washington Square Park. The 40-foot tree is delivered from New Hampshire at the end of November and is beautifully decorated with 8,100 lights, by our Parks Department's dedicated staff.
